Frederick Community College President Dr. Carol Eaton and the Frederick Community College Foundation, Inc. will host "An Evening of Fine Wines" to raise funds for FCC scholarships on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008. This inaugural event, to be held in the Field House from 7-11 p.m., will offer samplings of local, national, and international wines accompanied by elegant foods from local chefs. The evening will include music and dancing as well as a silent auction of items donated by local artisans, businesses and supporters of the College.

Tickets are $100 per person and are partially tax deductible. Black tie attire is requested. Corporate sponsors will receive reserved tables, appreciation gifts, advertising, and company recognition. Sponsorship opportunities include the Merlot level at $10,000; Pinot Grigio at $5,000; Pinot Noir at $2,000; Chardonnay at $1,500; and Zinfandel at $1,000.

"Last year’s 50th Anniversary Gala was a great success, so we decided to dress up the Field House once more for a great cause," said Sandy Smith, associate vice president for Enrollment Management and co-chair of the event. "Imagine how excited students feel when they hear that they’ve received a scholarship. Creating those scholarships gives a similar sense of excitement to investors who know they’re making a difference in a student’s life. We’re inviting the entire community to visit our campus to generate more scholarships while enjoying some delicious wines and foods. Scholarships always call for a celebration. This is an occasion not to be missed!"

FCC Foundation board member Brad Young and his wife Cheryl will serve as honorary chairs of the event. An FCC alumnus, Young served on the Board of Trustees from 1993-2008 and as chair from 1998-2001. He is president and CEO of Maryland Financial Planners, Ltd.

"Cheryl and I are delighted to help host this event," he said. "It’s an honor to be asked to help, and in fact, we’re honored to be involved with FCC any time we can. An Evening of Fine Wines is a fantastic way to increase scholarship money for FCC’s students while celebrating the great successes of the College and its students."

Enrollments at FCC have continued to increase and are up by more than 11 percent for the fall semester. Dr. Eaton said these figures demonstrate that citizens of Frederick County are eager for the opportunities that more education will bring to their lives. "Our classes are a great value, but more and more students need help in these difficult economic times. If the community wants a trained workforce of productive citizens, the community must help people become those kinds of citizens. Funding scholarships is an ideal way to lend a hand," she said.

Some of the items to be offered in the silent auction include: a week’s vacation at a condo in Florida; a wine refrigerator and assorted wines and accessories; a three course dinner for two prepared by FCC’s Certified Executive Chef Jon Kimbrough; a private shopping party and wardrobe consultation after hours at Talbots; four rounds of golf at a local course; an overnight stay and high tea at the Buckeystown Inn; a basket filled with chocolate goodies; a doll and series of books written by foreign languages adjunct faculty member Lois Jarman, and more.
